Kabale, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A 13 year old girl on Saturday evening drowned in Lake Bunyonyi while fetching water.

Monica Musinguzi, a primary six pupil at Kagorogoro primary school and daughter to Edward Ndyomugyenyi, a resident of  Kifurugutu in Kagorogoro village, Butanda sub county, Kabale district drowned at around 07:00PM.

According to her believed father, Monica left home happily to fetch water for domestic use. However, after fetching and trying to pull a 20 litre jerrycan from the lake, she slid and drowned.

Ndyomugyenyi says that efforts to save her failed since waters are very deep.

Dickson Kamuhanda, an area parish councilor, says that the death of Musinguzi is unfortunate.  He says that if the area had safe water like a gravity flow scheme, the girl would have not died while struggling to pull a jerrycan from the lake.
