26 pupils hospitalized because of food poisoning in Amudat

Amudat, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Twenty-six pupils of Kalas Girl’s primary school have been hospitalized over suspected food poisoning in Amudat district.

It alleged that on March 6th, 2024 at around 11:00 pm the said pupils developed stomach, throat, and heart pain after consuming cookies that they found wrapped in a polythene paper inside one of the classrooms.

Michael Longole, the Mt. Moroto regional Police spokesperson said that Police rushed to the scene after receiving the devastating information from the school head teacher.

Longole revealed that the affected pupils were immediately evacuated to the Amudat Hospital for treatment. He noted that so far 22 pupils have been discharged while 4 others are still being monitored by the medical team in the hospital.

Longole said that they have opened a general inquiry file to gather more information concerning the incident. He appealed to members of the public who may have relevant information about the incident report to the detectives to aid the investigations.

Longole urged the community to remain calm as security do their work to complete the investigation and provide the findings.

Kalas Girl’s Primary School is also used by Amudat District as a rescue Centre for girls escaping child marriages and female genital mutilation.
