Mukono, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Police have arrested a man suspected of having hacked a 4-year-old boy to death at Takajjunge village, Mukono district.
The suspect, identified as Dauda Jjumba, reportedly killed a child known as Adam Matovu and dumped his body in a pit latrine.
A neighbour said the incident happened last week when a stranger was seen scaling over a perimeter wall and after a chase, he dumped a bag in which they found a blood-stained knife. In the aftermath, a child from a neighbouring village was reported missing before his body was found in a pit latrine.
“We tried to arrest this stranger but he was probably lucky and he disappeared. But we became suspicious when we found a knife with fresh blood. We later heard that a child had been killed in one of the homes in our neighbourhoods. We alerted police to help us find the suspect killer,” a neighbour, Ronald Ssenkima said.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson said the sniffer dogs have since helped them trace and arrest Dauda Jjumba. He, however, said it is not conclusive that he is the actual murderer of an innocent boy Matovu.
“We have submitted the exhibits including the bag, the knife and a small pair of bed sheets to our forensic team for DNA analysis. We shall confirm whether the suspect in our custody participated in the murder after the DNA results,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.
