Mbarara, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Police in Mbarara City have arrested 41 people in an operation to crack down on suspected criminals terrorizing residents. The suspects were arrested on Wednesday in areas of Kakoba roundabout at tree shade, Lubiri, and behind London Arcade corridors.
Samson Kasasira the Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson says the suspects were found in possession of marijuana and house breaking equipment.
Kasasira says the intelligence-led operation follows complaints from members of the public and the business community about criminals that break into shops and waylay people on the streets.
Francis Basiime the Chairperson of Kiswahili Cell says that such operations should be embraced often noting that the crime rate in the city is increasing as the festive season nears.
Basiime says that Chairpersons of cells have agreed to remain vigilant at all times and also urged the public to report unknown people in the community to the police.
Kasasira says that operations to crack down on criminals in the region have intensified ahead of the festive season.
