Gulu, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Sheikh Muzamil Ismael Mandela, the newly appointed Kadhi of the Acholi Muslim District has pledged to lobby for programs that will spur infrastructural development in Muslim communities within the sub-region. The Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje appointed Sheikh Muzamil Acholi Kadhi two weeks ago.

The 31-year-old replaced Sheikh Musa Khali, who was appointed as the acting Northern Regional Assistant to the Mufti. Sheikh Khalil had served as the Acholi Kadhi comprising Amuru, Nwoya, Omoro, Gulu, and Pader Districts for 23 years.

He says the region lacks Islamic-founded schools, higher learning institutions, and developmental initiatives. Sheikh Muzamil says there is a need to expand on development that empowers the Muslim communities in the region in education, health, and finance.

He expressed gratitude for his appointment by the Mufti noting that he will use his position to forge unity among the Muslims in the region. Speaking about his new role as the acting Regional Assistant to the Mufti, Sheikh Khalil reiterated his determination to work towards uniting Muslims in both Acholi and Lango sub-regions.

Sheikh Muzamil has been working as the Secretary of Sharia Law under the Acholi Muslim District. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Ismalic Law from Al-Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMAMU) in Saudi Arabia.
