— The first of 32 fixtures in the 2017 Cup of Nations brings together two countries who have never met before in a competitive match.
— African football supporters love nicknames – Gabon are known as the Panthers and Guinea-Bissau as the Djurtus (wild dogs).
— Former African Footballer of the Year Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the stand-out Gabon footballer, topping the Bundesliga scoring charts this season with 16 goals in 15 matches.
— Guinea-Bissau have no comparable footballer. Although all 23 squad members are based abroad, not one is with a big-name club.
— Gabon aim to end a run of opening-match draws by hosts. South Africa were held by Cape Verde in 2013 and Equatorial Guinea by Congo Brazzaville two years ago.

— The countries have met once before at the Cup of Nations with an Alphonse Tchami goal giving Cameroon a 1-0 win over hosts Burkina Faso in the 1998 opener.
— Cameroon have won the competition four times, in 1984, 1988, 2000 and 2002, while the closest Burkina Faso came to glory was finishing runners-up in 2013.
— Both countries have European coaches. Belgian Hugo Broos guides Cameroon and Portugal’s Paulo Duarte is in a second spell as boss of Burkina Faso.
— Every African national football team has a nickname. Cameroon are known as the Indomitable Lions and Burkina Faso as the Stallions.
— Both teams exited the last Cup of Nations after the first round two years ago. Cameroon drew twice and lost one and Burkina Faso drew once and lost twice.
