Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The President of the Forum for Democratic Change party-FDC Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat has asked party supporters to boycott next week’s swearing-in ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni.
Amuriat also said that the day shouldn’t be recognized as a public holiday but any other day for Ugandans.
Speaking at the party headquarters in Najjanakumbi, Amuriat said that taking part in the celebrations will be legitimizing an election that was marred by irregularities.
Amuriat, just like the other presidential candidates turned down the invitation to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
He says the struggle to liberate Uganda is not over and asked Muslims to fight for change but also use this time of fasting to pray for their nation to be set free from the current leadership.
Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago also called upon change seekers to continue fighting to liberate Uganda. He says Uganda is under siege by a President who has held onto power for 35 years. But that they shall not settle until Uganda has been liberated and taken back to the rightful owners, Ugandans.
The City Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura said that although there was a political wave that affected the performance of the party in the just-concluded election, she was glad that many FDC members were strong enough to stick to the agenda of ousting Museveni out of power.
