Amuru, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A total of 383 patients with different health complications were successfully operated on from Atiak health centre IV in Amuru district.
Dr. Angelo Ochieng, the medical officer in charge of Atiak health centre IV said that the patients who were of all categories were operated on and treated for conditions including fibroids, goiter, endometrial cancer, vulva mass, ovarian mass, hernia, hydatid mole, cryptorchidism, hemorrhoids, lymphoma, and keloids among others.
The six-day surgical camp started on Monday last week until Saturday, and was offered at no cost by a team of surgeons and experts from the Bulamu Healthcare International.
Dr. Angelo told URN on Sunday that the offer was a great relief to the district and patients since most of them with such conditions were being referred to Gulu Regional and St Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu City for treatment.
Kenneth Okot, the chairperson Atiak town council where the health camp took place says 572 patients had enrolled for the services however not all of them could benefit due to various reasons.
He noted that the free surgeries were of great relief to the district which had for long been battling a shortage of staff and equipment to handle such conditions.
41-year-old Margaret Akello from Pabbo town council is among the patients that were deferred from receiving the services since she was still on medication for goiter.
Major hospitals and health facilities charge more than 100,000 Shillings for such services.
