Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Archbishop Church of Uganda Stephen Kazimba Mugalu has challenged religious leaders in the Anglican church to emulate the work of missionaries.

Kazimba says that in the past, missionaries did a significant role by putting up infrastructures like churches, hospitals and schools.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the new Uganda Christian University – Kampala campus premises at Mengo. The premises were owned by the Medical Research Council (MRC).

Kazimba said that if Anglicans work together, they can easily transform the church and its people.

He says that it is through working together that the UCU has been able to come up with the infrastructure that is going to help it expand the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor Uganda Christian University Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi says that with acquiring the permanent premises for the Kampala campus, it will help the institution save more than 600 Million Shillings annually that they have been spending on rent. He also says that it will increase the number of students, research and partnerships.

On the Covid-19 threat in institutions of learning, Mushengyezi noted that although the University has not recorded any case, they have minimized the physical classes.

From Shimon, the campus shifted to Old Kampala SS, then Taremwa Towers on Kabakanjagala road. Since 2015, UCU Kampala Campus has been housed at Lubiri Ring road, Mengo at the former Butikiro, which previously housed the Joint Clinical Research Center (JCRC).

The new Kampala Campus will be housing more than 1,000 students studying Law, Journalism and Mass Communication, Social Work and Business.
