Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Shafik Matovu, a mobile money agent from Matugga Trading Center in Wakiso district is nursing gunshot wounds at Mulago National Referral Hospital after being shot by thugs.
Matovu was attacked by armed thugs riding on a motorcycle around 10pm on Friday night as he was returning home with a bag of money.
The thugs shot at Matovu three times and managed to hit him on the left thigh and arm.
Matovu told URN on his hospital bed at Mulago hospital that the robbers trailed him from his workplace in the trading center and wanted to rob him at a dark spot where CCTV cameras don’t cover.
According to Matovu, after hearing the gunshots, he jumped off the Boda-boda that was riding him but in the process of saving his life, the thugs shot him on the thigh to disable him.
He however, says he managed to escape and entered the nearby Pump Fuel station shouting for help.
Matovu’s brother, Tony Ssekabila, says he received a phone call from someone notifying him that his brother had been shot.
He wants security in the area tightened despite the installation of CCTV cameras.
The Deputy Police spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan areas, Luke Owoyesigire, says police with the help of sister security Agencies have started investigations and hunt for the attackers.
