Assailants stab traditional healer to death

Kamuli, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Kamuli police are investigating circumstances surrounding the murder of a renowned traditional healer. Forty-year-old, Wasswa Kayizi was stabbed to death inside his shrine at Butabaala village in Southern division in Kamuli district on Wednesday night.

His lifeless body was covered with bruises and open wounds in the chest. Police retrieved the body from the Shrine on Thursday morning and took it to Kamuli general hospital mortuary for postmortem. Wasswa’s friend, Alex Badikube says that he might have been attacked by his clients whom he claims have been threatening his life.

“Being a traditionalist is not an easy job because at times we pray for people and they receive their heartfelt desires whereas, sometimes such prayers take long to materialize. Our customers instead accuse us of being fake, the same way Kayizi was being haunted by some of his clients,” he said.

Magidu Mutalya, the chairperson of traditional healers, says that in January this year, some residents attacked Wasswa accusing him of introducing bad spirits on their village and destroyed his shrines.

“In the first week of January, some residents attacked Wasswa, injured him physically and destroyed his shrines. They also burnt one of his shrines in March this year, but the police are yet to avail us of information concerning the progress of the investigations. Today our colleague was found dead and we can only trust that this time around police might be able to arrest the culprits,” he said.

The Busoga North police spokesperson, Michael Kasadha confirmed the incident saying that efforts are on to track down the assailants.
