Bishop Bamwoze is dead

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Rt. Rev. Cyprian Bamwoze, the first Bishop of Busoga Anglican Diocese is dead. Bamwoze, 86, succumbed to leukemia at Uganda Cancer Institute this morning.

Rt. Rev. Samuel Bogere Egesa, the Bishop of Bukedi Diocese has confirmed Bamwoze’s death, saying Christians of Busoga and the entire country have lost a dedicated servant of the Lord.

“I checked on him at the cancer institute last week. He could recognize visitors although he couldn’t talk well,” Egesa said. He says the late Bishop had spent almost six months in hospital.

Bamwoze was consecrated Bishop on August 6, 1972. A week later he was enthroned as first Bishop of Busoga Diocese on August 13, 1972.
