Hoima, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Bishop Samuel Kahuma of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese has warned the people of Bunyoro and Uganda at large to remain vigilant and prioritize security during the Christmas festivities.

In light of a recent attack attributed to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels, he urged heightened awareness and vigilance while celebrating Christmas, especially for people residing along Lake Albert, near the porous Uganda-DRC border.

Expressing concern over potential infiltrations by the rebels, Bishop Kahuma urged increased security deployment and regular patrols along the Uganda-DRC border to prevent any unauthorized entry into the country.  He advised church leaders to consider installing metal detectors on their premises to detect any potential threats during services, emphasizing the importance of securing places of worship.

Additionally, Bishop Kahuma called upon owners of entertainment venues to remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious individuals or items to the police, as such locations could be potential targets for rebel activities.

The bishop also cautioned against excessive alcohol consumption during the festive season, citing its detrimental impact on moral values, family stability, and poverty levels. He urged Christians to focus on productive activities that contribute to personal and community development, rather than succumbing to alcohol addiction during this sacred time.

Encouraging love, unity, and peace among families, he urged parents to use this festive period to foster open communication within their households and save for their children’s education in the upcoming academic year. Bishop Kahuma emphasized the importance of utilizing this time for positive engagement and growth within families.
