Kampala, Uganda| GODFREY SSALI | The newly elected Member of Parliament for Kyadondo East in Wakiso district Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine is expected to take his oath of allegiance on Tuesday as he starts his legislative work in the 10th parliament.
In the oath to be administered by the Clerk to Parliament Jane Kibirige, Kyagulanyi will “swear to be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Republic of Uganda and to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution,” as prescribed in the Oaths.
In addition, Kyagulanyi will also “swear to give faithful service to Parliament and support and uphold the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda as by law established.”
Article 81 (4-5) of the Constitution requires every person elected to parliament to take and subscribe to the oath of allegiance and the oath of Member of Parliament before assuming office.
Kyagulanyi, an independent will also be designated to two committees of parliament; Standing and Sessional Committees as prescribed in the Rules of Procedure.
A Standing Committee is set up at the start of a new term of Parliament and serves tenure of two and a half years while a Sessional Committee on the other hand is determined at the start of each new session, and lasts one year.
