Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The presence of Kyadondo East Legislator Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine’s at the funeral of former Deputy Paramount Chief of Acholi William George Lugai angered Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah.
Thousands of mourners gathered to bid farewell to the fallen Acholi Chief in Pajule Town council, Pader district when Kyagulanyi accompanied by his spokesman Joel Ssenyonyi emerged.
The pop star turned politician was accompanied by the Kilak South Member of Parliament Gilbert Olanya, who days ago was appointed as the People Power Mobilizer in Acholi Sub-region.
All dressed in black suits, Kyagulanyi, Ssenyonyi and Olanya’s presence excited the mourners.
The loud cheers interrupted the speech by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Oulanyah for about three minutes. Oulanyah who was seemingly angered asked why people were cheering someone whose “gate crushed” the funeral.
In his remarks aimed at the legislator, Oulanyah says Acholi people are tired of fights and asked that whoever wants to start a fight should start so from their home region.
“Leave us alone…….., if you want to start violence, start it from your side. Acholi are tired, we are tired of war. Please take it else were, take the fight elsewhere…,” said Oulanyah.
Kyagulanyi has recently been sighted many times in Acholi Sub-region in most social gathering. Last month he officially announced that he will challenge President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the 2021 general election.

Rt hon deputy speaker,are you right to say that hon kyagulanyi is promoting war?
In acholi, you never question or block anyone coming to mourn with you, actually your enemy is even permitted to come condole with you, that was a cheap staunt on the side of Ulanyah
Oulanya is just a junior despite being a deputy speaker in parliament! Bcos only a person with a narrow mind would mind to get angry at burrial just bcos so and so have appeared! The deceased was bobi’s friend or even a role model… He had to attend. The cheering crowd was not a problem,bcos cheering at burrial these days is not a sign of undermining the deceased but rather appreciating his cooperation with those who had come to burry him like bobi
I don’t think Oulanyah’s outburst was directed at Bobi Wine. The intended audience was not even present at the burial. All this was meant for President Museveni’s consumption. If you want to re-assure President Museveni of your loyalty to him, you must rightly or wrongly, publicly denounce Bobi Wine more so if he attends the same function as you. This removes the doubt that maybe you have sympathy for People Power Movement. Oulanyah was simply covering his ass!
The politics of “cannibalism.” When has a burial at least in Africa had “gate crushers?” If there was security at the burial “entrance”, why didn’t the honorable deputy speaker of Parliament ask how they let in the ” erant mourner?” Sometime back I wrote something about “politics at God’s funeral.” I was introgating as to whether “western civilization” had come to an end and something more dangerous was cropping up? The way politics is being played out questions more of our humanity. Olanya who is in a position that requires one to be agitating for unity he’s instead sending divisive tantrums and viewing Uganda in “segmented” regions. Jacob Olanya once took a bullet for “democratisation” of this country. He then aspired for “free speech and freedom to associate.” He is now aspiring for mourners to be issued with “burial invitation cards.”

Has it really got so scary that even funerals are now ” gate crushed “! I used to think a funeral gathers all people from all walks of life

If this is true it is very in fortunate that hon oulanya can come up with such utterances.
A very sad commentary on the state of affairs in our country. Utterly shameful of a person in his position. Reminds me of Specioza Kazibwe complaining of Bobi’s attendance of a certain function in Jinja last year when she raised a similar complaint. These NRM folks are running scared of Bobi!! Give them hell Bobi! They are wetting their pants!

We from Kenya support Boby wine. I call upon that speaker ,you should be ashamed !! Uganda is for Ugandans not for your boss or your mother and father!! You will fall and Uganda with Boby and his 99% followers shall rise!! Shame on you I wish you in Kenya ungejua hujui!
