Budaka, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Budaka police are holding two of their own in connection with the theft of property at the Electoral Commission offices.

The suspects are police constable Vincent Emoru and Sergeant David Kuloba, both attached to Budaka Central Police Station. Budaka Resident District Commissioner Tom Chesol says the duo is locked up at Budaka Central Police Station in connection to the break-in at the EC offices.

He explains that the two police officers were deployed for guard duties at the Electoral Commission premises on Friday last week. He however says that there was a break-in at the office and theft of property which they want the officers to explain.

“I received investigating officers from PSU Kampala and now we are jointly investigating the two officers basing on three aspects of negligence, connivance or participation in the stealing, after they will be charged,’’ Chesol said.

He says if found guilty, the officers will be compelled to pay the missing property before they are charged and dismissed from the force. The Bukedi Region Police Commander Alfred Bagambaki couldn’t be reached for comment. Norah Lunyolo, the Budaka District Returning Officer says the thugs made off with two solar batteries, a kettle and other valuable documents.

Lunyolo says she doesn’t know the motive of the attackers in such highly guarded premises.
