Bukedi diocese ordains 6 new canons

The Bishop of Bukedi Diocese George Sam Bogere Egesa has ordained 6 new canons.

Bukedi, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT  |  The Bishop of Bukedi Diocese George Sam Bogere Egesa has ordained 6 new canons.

The 6 new canons are Ven. Rev. Canon Joshua Iroota, Ven. Rev. Canon Barnabas Muniala, Canon Sam Rodgers Wairagala,Canon Aggrey  Ofwono, Canon Joseph Hirya and canon sister Kezia Dorothy Otim.

Bishop Egesa who presided over the function at St. Peters cathedral in Tororo district on Sunday, asked the new canons to support the church onto a development path and also tasked them to preach peace and reconciliation in the diocese warning them against forming cliques that undermine the spirit of peace and reconciliation in the church.

Egesa also asked the new canons to create amicable solutions towards the rampant land grabbing by those neighboring the church.

He argues that this is frustrating development in the church since they can’t do anything productive due to the existing wrangles.

He meanwhile noted that to avoid some of these disputes, the church through the new canons should think of leasing out some of its land which he said will enable the church realize capital to start business for self-sustainability.

Rev. Canon Nelson Kawea Serubiri, the former diocesan secretary of Namirembe diocese and the main celebrant at the ordination asked the new canon to avoid involving themselves in political and ethnical differences in Bukedi region because this will taint the name of the church.

Canon Sam Rodgers Wairagala, one of the newly ordained canons says his reign will ensure that the church picks the issue of surveying their land as a basis of solving land fights against the church.
