Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Busoga United Football Club settled for a two-all draw with URA FC during a faceoff at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru on Thursday evening.

Busoga United enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 lead throughout the first half of play with goals from Hussein Ssajjabi and Emmanuel Ajo in the 13th and 33rd minutes of play, respectively. However, 28 minutes into the second round, URA’s Bruno Bunyaga scored a comeback goal which was complemented by a second goal from Moses Aliro, in the 82nd minute of the game.

URA edged out Busoga with a ball possession of 72 against 28 percent, and 13 shots on target, making them the game favorites. URA head coach David Obua says that their strategy was to press their opponent throughout playing time, which materialized in a draw within the dying minutes of the game.

Obua added that despite Busoga’s early lead, the players and the coaches alike remained calm, confident, and relaxed, which enabled them to press through with at least a draw at the end of the game. He adds that their strategy was viable, characterized by introducing planned substitutes on the pitch, with the tenacity required to get the best out of the game despite the first-half defeat.

“We strategized on getting the best result, coupled with entertaining football to our fans who had filled the pitch. therefore, the five substitutes in the second half were game changers who enabled us to have a deserved return and compete favorably against our hosts,” he says.

Meanwhile, Busoga’s head coach Peter Onen says that four of his players in the defense and midfield areas, sustained serious injuries in the course of play but he had only two substitutes, who could not favorably fill the gap left behind by their counterparts.

Onen adds that they opted to continue pressing forward, which partly enabled them to part with one point other than losing it all since their guests had gained momentum to win.
