CRS launches Local Leadership project
Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | CRS Uganda has launched a new “Advancing Local Leadership in the Right Way” (ALLRight) project that will strengthen the institutional capacity of Caritas Tororo. The project will turn Caritas Tororo into an effective and recognized leader in emergency response in Eastern Uganda.
The 29-month AllRight project focuses on strengthening Caritas Tororo’s capacities to effectively develop and implement high quality emergency programming in Eastern Uganda.
This will be achieved via reinforced organizational structures and systems, relevant knowledge to effectively respond to emergencies, increased organizational capacity to engage donors and mobilize resources, and strengthened monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning systems to generate and manage data.
CRS’ Vision 2030 emphasizes Local Leadership, with the belief that vibrant local organizations and local leaders are best suited to drive strong program outcomes and transformational change, and that decisions should be made by those closest to communities.
“As a way of consolidating efforts on Local Leadership, CRS has set aside the ALLRight Fund – Advancing Local Leadership in the Right way. This is a discretionary fund set aside to provide the needed boost for local leadership investments in the remaining duration of CRS’ Vision 2030 strategy. The Fund promotes shared learning across the agency, ensures allocation of the investments needed to fulfill our agency’s commitments to the Grand Bargain and our Caritas Internationalis sister agencies, and supports measurement of achievement of the Local Leadership indicators,” Lainey Heyl, Acting Country Representative CRS Uganda.
“I would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Government of Uganda, through the Office of the Prime Minister and all stakeholders working in the emergency sector for the great work and collaboration in the region to ensure the safety of the people living in the disaster-prone areas. It is my dream and wish that this project will see Caritas Tororo come a long way in continuing to support these emergency preparedness and response efforts in the region and that there will be spillover effects of the project that will strengthen the sustainability of the institution,” Ms Lainey said.
