Entebbe, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A boda boda has been arrested on allegations of ferrying gun wielding men who last month killed a mobile money operator in Entebbe town.

Armed men trailed Nambi Bogiya from her workplace up to her rented house, shot her dead and vanished with the money that was in her bag. Police detectives at Entebbe police division immediately embarked on aggravated robbery and murder investigations.

Crime intelligence was brought on board to ensure the thugs are arrested and face trail. After almost a month, crime intelligence detectives have arrested a boda boda rider who is accused of ferrying Nambi’s killers.

Charles Twine, the criminal investigations directorate spokesperson confirmed the arrest of the boda boda rider, but said they could not reveal his name since he is helping investigators to trace the actual killers.

A detective has confided to Uganda Radio Network –URN that the rider has confessed to riding the killers but claims he was not aware of their mission. He allegedly said he was booked during daytime and paid half of the money.

“They promised to pay me 10,000 shillings,” a detective quoted from the boda boda rider’s statement. “I first transported them during day time and they paid me 8,000 shillings. They promised to give me the balance and more money when I carried them on my motorcycle in the evening hours.”

Nambi was killed at around 9pm in Nalugala zone. Investigators suspect that the killers hired the rider during daytime purposely to survey the area and identify all the possible escape routes, a reason they successfully escaped without being seen.

Such armed robberies have recently been reported even in areas outside Kampala such as Lwengo, Mbarara, Isingiro and Jinja. However, greater Makindye division and Makindye Ssabagabo municipality have recorded numerous armed robberies in the last five months where people have been killed at mobile money shops, salons and construction sites.
