Kampala, Uganda | JULIUS BUSINGE | Mandela Group of companies through its subsidiary- City Oil in partnership with Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) is sponsoring 30 lucky people to take part in the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge.
The fully paid trip will see the winners enjoy a three day and four nights stay in Dubai as well as have experience driving in Desert Challenge next month.
The two companies have been running the promotion as a service and win since July last year in which participants were required to do service at any of the City Oil service stations, then fill in a coupon to stand a chance to enter the draw.
Speaking at the last draw held at NamirembeFuel Station in Kampala on March 15, the City Tyres Marketing Manager Herbert Bashasha said winners will visit largest sites in Dubai and other exciting places.
He added that the promotion aimed at giving back to the customers given that the growth of their automobile service has been powered by the taxi community and other motorists over the years.
“I can confidently say this has been a successful promotion,” Bashasha said after picking the five last winners. He said that a total of five winners had earlier indicated that they would pull out of the trip due to personal reasons. They were replaced with other five on the last day of the draw to make the number of winners 30.
Out of the 30 winners, 24 are private car owners and the rest are from the taxi community.
Bashasha said their partnership with ENOC in this trade was informed by the fact that the latter loves the Desert Challenge and has strong and firm business foundation.
The Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge is an international rally raid race held in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates since 1991.
Over the years, the challenge has seen many of the biggest names in international motorsport tackle the dunes of the UAE, including Carlos Sainz, Colin McRae, Ari Vatenan, and Heinz Kinigadner.
Following his victory in 2015, Marc Coma currently holds the record of eight ADDC titles, winning all but two rallies between 2006 and his retirement in 2015.
The event entered a new era in March 2009 when it was renamed the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge with the five-day motor sport spectacular being staged in its entirety across Abu Dhabi emirate under the auspices of the Abu Dhabi Government, with the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE) retaining its event organizational role.
