Client commits suicide in guest house in Iganga

Iganga, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Busoga East police are investigating circumstances under which 35-year-old Elvis Ogwal, committed suicide in his room at Blue Moon guest house along Market street, Southern division of Iganga municipality.

His lifeless body was retrieved from the guest house room around 2:30 pm on Tuesday where it was found hanging on the window. He reportedly committed suicide using his shirt. According to information obtained by URN, Ogwal checked into the guesthouse on Sunday night.

He reportedly spent the entire Monday having informal chats with guest house employees before retiring to his room in the night. Amos Mukiibi, a waiter at the guest house says they were forced to break into Ogwal’s room after noticing that he had locked himself up longer than anticipated.

“Ogwal sounded like a jolly man without any traces of stress. He enjoyed meals with us yesterday and held humorous conversations throughout the day before breaking off to sleep. We were shocked that he committed suicide,” Amos said.

The guest house manager who declined to identify himself told URN that they have resolved to call Ogwal’s phone contacts at random with the hope of finding his relatives since he lacks clear identification documents detailing his place of residence.

The Busoga East Police Spokesperson Diana Nandawula, told our reporter that police had dispatched a team of detectives to the guest house to find any clues that can explain his death. The deceased’s body is lying at Iganga general hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
