COMMENT: Death, the faithful porter

DEATH! Veteran journalist and NBL Board chair Onapito Ekomoloit has passed on suddenly

Fear not death, this fleeting guest

Death is but a porter sent,
With no power of its own,
A servant on assignment bent,
Where the Almighty’s will is shown.
It waits for none, yet tarries still,
Bound by the Master’s holy will.

It bears no strength to act alone,
No crown upon its fleeting breath,
For every life that it has known,
Is cradled not by fear of death.
The One who reigns above the skies,
Holds all the keys, hears all the cries.

When summoned forth, it will not wait,
It carries out its charge with care,
Yet stands outside the pearly gate,
Unable to cross or enter there.
The Lamb has sealed the victor’s way,
Where death has no final say.

Death comes to claim but cannot keep,
The souls in Christ who stand redeemed.
Their journey’s end, though marked by sleep,
Is but a step toward the dream,
Where life eternal they will gain,
And death’s attempt to bind is vain.

Though it may boast of fleeting might,
Its victory is long undone,
For Christ, in glory, clothed in light,
Declared His triumph as the One.
In Him, the grave has lost its power,
Death yields in that triumphant hour.

So fear not death, this fleeting guest,
For Christ has conquered all its sting.
In Him, the weary find their rest,
In Him, the song of life they sing.
Death cannot touch what He has sealed,
In Christ, our final hope revealed.
