Court of appeal to hold 1st upcountry civil appeals session

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Court of Appeal is set to hold its first-ever upcountry Civil Appeals and Applications session in Gulu. The session, scheduled from September 25 to September 27, 2024, will hear 22 civil appeals and applications.

Presiding over the session will be Justices Fredrick Martin Stephen Egonda-Ntende, Cheborion Barishaki, and Christopher Gashirabake. According to the cause list signed by the Court’s Registrar, Allen Rukundo Owembabazi, the majority of the cases—16 in total—are related to land claims.

Other matters include trespass, setting aside High Court orders, damages, general damages, stays of execution, interim measures, contract disputes, validation of appeals, stays of proceedings, and striking out notices of appeal.

This session marks the beginning of the Court of Appeal’s initiative to hold upcountry civil sessions in various parts of the country, with a session planned for Mbarara in the next quarter.
