COVID-19 case at The New Vision

Kabushenga confirmed case

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT & URN | A member of staff of The New Vision has tested positive for COVID-19 and the media house plans further checks to ensure more are not infected.

“I wish to inform you that Vision Group has registered a case of COVID-19. One of our staff working at the head office in Kampala tested positive over the weekend,” CEO Robert Kabushenga said in a statement to staff.

All staff who have been in contact with the COVID-19 case will be required to stay at home and isolate for a period of 14 days.

The announcement comes a day after Uganda registered 66 new cases, with many of them from Kampala.

This is the second-highest single-day spike since the outbreak of Coronavirus Disease in Uganda. The highest was recorded in May when up to 84 people tested positive in one day.

The  Ministry of Health said in a Sunday evening statement that 30 of the positive were recorded from Kampala, seven from Wakiso and six from Namisindwa district, where Uganda’s first person to succumb to the viral respiratory disease lived.

Another 11 of the cases were contacts of previously confirmed cases in Kampala, Namisindwa and Nakaseke districts. Nine of the contacts yesterday were also from Kampala.

Kampala was early this week declared a hot spot by the Ministry of Health warning that there are a lot of yet to be detected cases as already positive people have been got from the highly populated downtown arcades of Namaganda and Garilaya Plaza.
