Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Forty three senior police officers have completed a four-month training in Information and Communication Technology-ICT use, Crime management command, execution of operations, and observance of human rights.
The graduates were cohorts of the intermediate command and staff course intake which started on April 9. The group which was trained at Bwebajja Police Senior Command and Staff College included some police officers serving as Regional, District and Division commanders.
The college Commandant Commissioner of Police Moses Kafeero said that all 43 participants who were nominated for the course successfully attained the college pass mark of 60 per cent which has been unusual compared to previous intakes that sometimes came with the dismissal of some officers.
The Director of the Police Human Resource Development Godfrey Golooba urged graduates to exhibit the skills they have acquired to steer the police institutions. He further cautioned the officer against corruption that has repeatedly tarnished the name and image of the police force.
Emitu Ezekiel Ebapu, who spoke on behalf of other graduates, said the course has enhanced their ability to use technology to fight crime, plan and execute operations.
“It has enhanced us with critical analysis of situations, enhanced us in new skills and different technological means around, which helps in addressing the present-day crime in the fourth industrial era by developing and applying high take strategies in solving crimes. Ebapu said”.
The Joint Chief of staff Jackson Bakasamba who presided over the pass out on Friday cautioned the graduating police officers against participating in Human rights abuses and implored them to shun acts of torturing suspects in police cells.
