Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Deborah Katuramu who has been the deputy head of Public Service and deputy secretary to Cabinet is retiring after 49 years in service.
Katuramu attended her last cabinet meeting on Monday. At a ceremony to send her off at State House Entebbe, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni hailed her for leading an exemplary life free of corruption. “I have not heard anything about her being involved in corruption,” Museveni said while honouring Katuramu with a presidential award.
Katuramu served as a senior civil servant before being appointed as a deputy head of Public Service and deputy Secretary to the Cabinet.
Speaking about Katuramu, Jessica Alupo the Vice President praised her efficiency and availability, which she said will be missed.
Lucy Nakyobe, the head of Public Service and Secretary to Cabinet, expressed her appreciation for Katuramu’s dedicated service, which began in 1975 as a personnel officer. Nakyobe said Katuramu’s unwavering dedication will be remembered for generations.“Her commitment and institutional knowledge have greatly benefited the nation. We will miss her invaluable presence as she begins this new chapter,” Nakyobe said.
For her part, Katuramu expressed gratitude for the opportunities to serve in various capacities, including local government, culture and community development, and the office of the President.
