Kasese, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The delay by the government to release money for Kasese Industrial Park has affected the progress of completion.
In 2018, the government released 10 billion shillings to develop Kasese and Kabarole industrial parks in a bid to promote agro-industrialization in the Rwenzori region.
In March, Kasese received 4 billion shillings for construction of roads, power extension and water connection to the park located in Kahokya cell central division.
Construction of the park which was supposed to have been completed this month has been hindered by the irregular release of money by the government.
The Kasese Municipal civil engineer Ramesh Wandyambya says that some of the activities that include the construction of roads and bush clearing at the park have been halted after the service providers stopped supplying the park due to lack of payment.
The Kasese Municipality Mayor Godfrey Kabyanga says that they have been struggling to convince the service providers to continue offering services as they wait for more funds from the government.
On Thursday while visiting the site, the Executive Director National Agricultural Advisory Services- NAADS Dr Samuel Mugasi said that the government has secured funds to ensure that the work is completed by August this year.
The OWC Rwenzori region coordinator Gen Philip Mugarura says the park will mainly be handling mining and agricultural value addition.
