Omoro, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | There is panic in Labworomor village in Bobi sub county in Omoro district following the death of a mother and her child because of suspected coronavirus.
42-year-old Filder Aloyo, a shop keeper in Labworomo trading center and her one year old daughter, Millian Auma died mysteriously on Sunday.
Kerobino Okot, the area LC 1 chairperson, says the two were found dead inside their house on Sunday.
Okot explained that Aloyo had just moved to the area from her sister’s home in Padibe West in Lamwo district.
According to Okot, the deceased’s surviving children told authorities that their mum was overheard screaming and crying the previous night about being strangled by demons.
He explains that the children ran to the neighbors calling for help but they found their mother dead alongside her daughter by the time they returned.
Aloyo’s death prompted dozens of residents to flee the village in panic on suspicion that she could have succumbed to the coronavirus.
Patrick Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, says a case of sudden death was reported at Bobi police station vide SD REF04/29/03/2020.
The duo’s body was still at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital pending postmortem by the time of publishing this story. Uganda has 33 confirmed coronavirus patients but no death has been reported.
