Entebbe, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT  |  Entebbe municipal council has received multiple grants to complete the construction of different infrastructure projects undertaken more than three years ago.

The projects include; the upgrade of Busambaga – Katabi road, from marram to tarmac, the completion of the Market place in Kitooro under the Markets and Agriculture Trade Improvement Projects (MATIP Program), the construction of the Taxi Park under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development-USMID project. The other is the lighting and construction of access roads within the municipality.

However, all projects had stalled after the municipality failed to secure funds in the financial year 2018/2019 to complete the constructions.

Entebbe municipality Mayor Vincent Kayanja told URN in an interview on Wednesday morning that the the municipality has finally received up to 9 billion Shillings to facilitate the completion of the market, the taxi park and several other access roads in Entebbe Municipality. Currently, each structure is at 90 per cent completion.

The Municipal council has also received up to 1.7 billion Shillings from the Uganda Road Fund to upgrade access roads in Entebbe Division A and Division B. These also include the Kigungu access road close to Entebbe International Airport.

For the past three years, the Municipality has not collected revenue from taxi operators and market vendors in the area due to the lack of complete structures where they would operate from. As a result, the municipal finance department estimates that they have lost up to 3.8 billion Shillings in anticipated revenues.

The Mayor suggests that all people should immediately adhere to regulations and demolish all constructions in road reserves to pave way for the upcoming works.
