Families urged to form COVID-19 task forces

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Government has urged heads of families to form family task forces to control the spread of COVID-19.

The Gender and Culture State Minister, Peace Mutuuzo, says there is need for parents or guardians to form task forces comprising of about three people.

She says the head of the family who in most cases is the father should be the head of the taskforce and will be responsible for coordinating and mobilizing all family members on issues to do with COVID-19.

She also encourages every family to have a hand washing facility with water and soap for every family member to regularly wash their hands to avoid infection.

According to Mutuuzo, families should maintain social distancing among themselves but also with people from outside.

The task-force will ensure that family members especially those who walk out wash their hands with soap upon return.

Mutuuzo says that all home discos, cultural dances, plays and video shows, birthday parties that might attract the attention of the neighbors should be suspended immediately.

“No family member should be allowed to go visiting another family even in the neighborhood and don’t allow visitors into your home. However, you are encouraged to constantly keep communicating to your family members elsewhere through telephones or social media or internet” said Mutuuzo

Mutuuzo says that every Health Village Team member or para social workers or local council executive member shall be responsible for tracking the happenings in atleast a family at risk within a village. These will coordinate with the health team to handle the situation where necessary.
