Fighting corruption will be high on the agenda when Ugandan leaders head to the National Leadership Retreat Kyankwnazi, Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda has said.

“Corruption is one of the bottlenecks of government. Yes corruption will be tackled as one of the key issues at the retreat,” Rugunda told the press Friday.

Rugunda explained that with many new ministers recently appointed, the retreat is an opportunity to ensure everyone is in line with government plans.

He said they also need to reflect on the feedback they got from the elections, which he said was a great consultation process on how Uganda should progress in this new term. Members of the ruling NRM party, NRM Central Executive Committee members, ministers and their technocrats will be in Kyankwanzi

“There couldn’t be better, popular, massive consultations like the February elections. So we are now in the process of actualising some of the great ideas that came through this consultation process .”

The theme of this year’s retreat that runs July 25 to August-1  will be “Sustaining Steady Progress: Cabinet Cohesion, Efficiency for Enhanced Service Delivery and Job Creation”

President Yoweri Museveni will give a keynote address on Tuesday.

“The President has been very clear that in this kisanja we are going to address business in not the usual manner. We have also invited a minister from Malaysia to share with us their experience,” Rugunda said.
