Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | FINCA Uganda, a microfinance pioneer in Uganda has unveiled Janet Mudoola as its brand ambassador in a bid to further spread its financial and non-financial services to its clients.
Mudoola was among the first customers served in the eastern district of Iganga by FINCA Uganda in 1992.
She has signed a two-year contract to promote the FINCA brand and inspire other women to achieve success through financial inclusion. Speaking at the unveiling event held in Kampala on Aug.13, Mudoola expressed the unmatched support she has received from FINCA for over 34 years.
“FINCA believed in our dreams and saw our potential as women to grow financially. I am so proud to have been able to grow my business and educate my children in partnership with FINCA,” she said.
The new Ambassador was the first executive from the first-ever created group called Twegate Kimanto- formed in 1992. This has since formed the benchmark for village banking in Uganda and beyond.
FINCA Uganda is part of a global network of microfinance institutions under the umbrella of FINCA Impact Finance.
FINCA Impact Finance Chief Executive Officer Jeff Flowers expressed gratitude to Janet and optimism about FINCA Uganda’s work to end poverty in the country
“Janet’s story is proof that when given opportunity and resources, women will transform their lives and communities,” Flowers said.
In her new role, FINCA executives said, Mudoola will travel to events around Uganda to share her story and help other women understand their potential and the resources they can access. FINCA will highlight her story in its publications and other outreach materials.
This development comes as the financial entity is extending its outreach beyond Ugandan nationals to refugees to strengthen their resilience and ability to contribute to the Ugandan economy.
FINCA Uganda Board Chairperson, Olive Lumonya highlighted the importance of ambassadors in helping women access financial services.
“Thousands of women will see themselves in Janet and be inspired to improve their living situations,” she said. “And time and time again, when women succeed financially, their families and communities see massive benefits,” Lumonya said.
Since FINCA’s founding in 1984, the organization has focused on empowering women to achieve financial independence and create prosperous futures for themselves and their families.
FINCA has long offered tailored financial products and financial literacy training.
In Uganda alone, the organization has supported over 530,000 individuals and their families and has built a customer base of 150,000 customers of which 45.5% are women.
