KCCA suffered a setback in their title chase when they lost to relegation-threatened but fast improving Saints 2-1 in the Azam Uganda Premier League (UPL) at Nakivubo on Tuesday.
Alex Kitata and Ivan Kiwewa scored for the Saints while Sulaimon Akinyemi got KCCA’s consolation. All goals came in the first half. KCCA remain top at 51 points, nine better than Vipers with five matches left.
But that Mike Mutebi’s KCCA have played two more games than second-placed Vipers and Express, the other team with an outside shot at the title, will increase pressure on the current table leaders.
Victory for the Saints increases their survival chances as coach Moses Basena’s men move to 27 points, five away from relegation.
It was a fairly even match but with the Saints showing more intent and creating far more and better scoring chances.
They deservedly took the lead in the 26th minute when KCCA goalkeeper Emmanuel Opio allowed Kitata’s weak header to roll through his legs.
KCCA levelled three minutes from half-time when Derrick Nsibambi released Akinyemi down the right, the Nigerian driving forward before burying it home past Saints goalkeeper Richard Anyama.
Their goal didn’t last long, however; Saints immediately attacking and forcing Hakim Ssenkumba into a handball and the referee to pointing to the spot kick.
Kiwewa stepped forward and beat Opio from the spot for the winner.
Kalisa winner earns Bul maiden victory over URA

In their previous nine meetings, the best Bul had done was force four stalemates with URA winning the rest.
However, the trend changed on Tuesday afternoon thanks to a Milton Kalisa strike that earned Bul maximum points in a Uganda Premier League (UPL) game at Kakindu.
The young striker converted from the spot for the only goal of the game after being fouled in the forbidden area.
Kalisa dusted himself before sending goalie Sulait Luyima the wrong way for Bul’s third straight victory against the giants.
Before Tuesday, Bul had earned their first ever away victory against Vipers and also won against Express 2-0 at home.
Maximum points lift the Eastern giants to sixth on the 16 team standings with 38 points while URA drop to 4th with a point more.
Soana complete double over Lweza

Soana have moved to third on the Azam Uganda Premier League (UPL) after thrashing Lweza 3-1 at Wankulukuku as they earned their first ever double over the side.
Charles Ayiekho’s side held a one goal cushion at half time as Dan Sewava scored for the visitors in the 20th minute.
Ten minutes after the break, ex-Mubs forward Musa Esenu doubled the visitors lead before David Ssali made it 3-0 three minutes later.
The game seemed all over for the Oranje, who were missing assistant coach Hamza Kalanzi and defender Nestroy Kizito through suspension but Mustafa Kiraga pulled one back for the side.
The remaining 25 minutes saw each side pressing for more goals but the scoreline remained static.
Soana are now on 41 points; ten behind leaders KCCA who have a game in hand while Lweza drop to 11th on 31.

Bright Stars end Sadolin winning streak

Sadolin Paints winning run has finally been halted thanks to a barren stalemate with Bright Stars at Champions Stadium, Mwerwere on Tuesday.
The Paints went into the game on the back of five wins on the bounce; the longest streak managed in the league this campaign but couldn’t break down a resilient Stars backline that was striving to keep a first clean sheet in nine games.
The hosts were desperate for maximum points and threw everything at the visitors but no team could break the deadlock.
A point lifts the Kawempe based side to 10th on 31 points swapping positions with Lweza, who were thrashed 3-1 by Soana at Wankulukuku.
Sadolin Paints move to seventh on the log on 38 points, same as neighbours Bul, who have a superior goal difference.
