Ngora, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Dr Francis Epetait, the former Member of Parliament for Ngora County has emerged winner in the Forum for Democratic Change- FDC party primaries.
Epetait on Thursday defeated his rivals with 320 votes. He was contesting against Paul Emaru who garnered 72 votes while Charles Aeko got 64 votes.
Epetait, who has been out of politics for 10 years represented Ngora County for two terms. He lost the seat in 2011 to Dr Abraham Isamat of the National Resistance Movement- NRM party.
This is after Isamat won an election petition he filed in Soroti High court challenging the election of Epetait for non-compliance of election rules and alternating results.
High Court judge Wilson Musalu Musene noted that evidence brought before the court proved that votes were unlawfully invalidated in various polling stations creating room for Isamat victory.
David Okurut, a media personality defeated Ngora LCV chairperson Ben Eumu for the new Kapir County MP seat.
Simon Peter Okello, the FDC district registrar says the elections were peaceful, adding that the other aspirants who lost conceded defeat.
The FDC also conducted party primaries for the Ngora district Woman MP and the district chairperson seat. Stella Apolot Isodo emerged winner after garnering 99 votes against Sarah Eperu who got 27 votes.
For the LCV chairperson seat, Jacob Otai was declared the winner after defeating Charles Okiror and Sam Okurut.
The Ngora Woman MP seat is currently represented by NRM’s Jacqueline Amongin and David Abala for Ngora County.
