Former UTODA boss Haji Musa Katongole is dead

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Hajji Musa Katongole, the former chairman of the now defunct Uganda Taxi Owners and Driver’s Association (UTODA) is dead.

Katongole who has been sick and admitted at TMR Hospital in Naalya, a Kampala suburb for several days was pronounced dead this morning.

It is said that Katongole who has spent days on life support, had heart complications he has been battling from in the last few years.

Utoda was a powerful body that at one time managed all taxi parks and the taxi business in Kampala and other major towns around the country. But in 2011, Kampala Capital City Authority under Hajji Erias Lukwago withdrew the contract to manage taxis in Kampala accusing Utoda of mistreating drivers.

After the collapse of Utoda, Katongole teamed up with others to start Awakula Ennume Transport services to continue with the transport business operating a fleet of buses.

The program for Katongole’s burial which is expected to take place today at his father’s home in Kasangati in Wakiso district is yet to be communicated.

It is however expected that there will be a memorial service at Kibuli Mosque in Kampala. Katongole has been a close confidant to Hajji Prince Kassim Nakibinge, the titular head of the Islam in Uganda.
