Former Works Minister Byandala faces Anti-Corruption Court

Abraham Byandala, the minister without portfolio is expected to appear before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala today to answer charges in regard to the Mukono-Kyetume-Katosi/Kisoga-Nyenga road corruption scandal.

Byandala who is the former minister of works and transport is expected to appear in court alongside five other men who have been implicated in the scandal.

According to a notice from the Inspectorate of Government, Byandala will appear in court alongside; Eng. Berunado Ssebbugga Kimeze (former Acting Executive Director) and Joe Ssemugooma (former Acting Director Finance and Administration) at the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA).


Others are Marvin Baryaruha, the former Legal Counsel at UNRA, Apolo Senkeeto alias Kalyesubula Mark, a businessman; and Mugote Isaac, a former Banker at Housing Finance Bank Ltd.

Byandala was at the helm of the Works ministry when the Shs 165 billion contract for the construction of the Mukono-Kyetume-Katosi/Kisoga-Nyenga road was awarded to a fictitious American firm known as Eutaw.

Byandala has been under police investigation for alleged influence peddling that saw the national roads agency give a multibillion shilling contract to Eutaw before finalizing the due diligence process on the firm.

They are expected to enter plea today [July 28] at the Kololo-based anti-corruption court.
