COMMENT | THE INDEPENDENT | Namasagali, Namilyango, Makerere, Nkumba, Uganda …. Awake!
The lion has fallen the lion has slept
A giant at peace, his spirit at rest
In the heart of Uganda, where hope found its flame, He carried our dreams and uplifted our name.
With wisdom and courage, he stood at the gate, A beacon of light for the hearts he shaped.
His roar was of kindness, his stride was of grace, He fought for each child, no matter their place.
In classrooms, in halls, his presence was felt, He taught us with love, he made our hearts melt.
With rigour, with power, he forged us a way, To find our own paths, come what may.
The lion has fallen, the drumbeats grow still, The voice that once guided now whispers in hills.
But his spirit, his passion, will ever remain, In the hearts he has touched, in the lives he has changed.
Sleep now, great Man of God, your battle is won, Your journey continues with each rising sun.
Your legacy echoes in every soft breeze, Rest in peace, dear Rev. Fr Damien Grimes MHM MBE, rest in peace.
’Blessed are those who sleep in the Lord’ 1 Thessalonians 4:14 (NIV):
Our Pride you have gone to prepare us rooms in heaven.
Rest well Father, you made us who we are. pic.twitter.com/Z7eulYXeKC
