Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The 2021/2022 FUFA Big league is set to kick off on November 13. According to the Federation of Uganda Football Association-FUFA, the edition will be different from the last edition when teams were grouped into two.
According to FUFA, the Big League will have 11 teams but play in a single group on a home and away basis. Previously, the teams were supposed to be 12 but Water FC was excluded.
According to Aisha Nalule, FUFA Competitions Director, Water FC failed to comply with the local soccer governing body to present their licensing requirements ahead of the kick-off.
Water FC together with the other eight clubs were earlier given a deadline of October 25 to submit their licensing requirements, but they failed to register the maximum number of players required by FUFA. They also failed to submit the details of the Chief Executive Officer among other requirements.
The bottom four teams on the final table standings at the end of the season shall be relegated to their respective 3rd Division Leagues.
The eleven teams that will take part in the competition include Maroons FC, Cavalry FC, Nyamityobora FC, Proline FC, MYDA FC, Kitara, Kyetume FC, Ndejje University, Kataka FC and Blacks Power FC.
According to the opening fixtures release, Maroons will play Calvary FC at Prisons Ground, Nyamityobora will play Proline at Kakyeka stadium in Mbarara, and MYDA will battle Ndejje University at King George IV Memorial Stadium among other fixtures.
Arua Hill FC is the defending champions of the league after defeating Tooro United FC in the final played in August 2021 at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
Previously Arua City had emerged as the leader of the Elgon group while Tooro United topped the Rwenzori group.
