Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng has submitted to the Speaker of Parliament, a confidential report about the health status of Kawempe North MP, Muhammad Ssegirinya.
Ssegirinya is currently admitted at Mulago National Referral Hospital where he was taken after his health condition deteriorated. He had been detained at Kigo prison and later transferred to the Murchison Bay hospital in Luzira, the national referral hospital for prisoners.
He was first arrested together with his Makindye West counterpart Allan Ssewanyana, on charges of murder, attempted murder, aiding and abetting terrorism, stemming from recent machete killings in the Masaka sub-region. He has since been reported to be unwell.
On Wednesday, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Anita Among asked Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng to submit a report on Segirinya’s health, which she submitted this afternoon. Aceng said that she could not present the report to the entire house because of medical ethics.
However, Among says that her office is working in consultation with the Leader of the Opposition Mathias Mpuuga and the Executive, after which, the House would be informed on the next action to be taken.
However, Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said that Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana was equally sick and that parliament should not wait for his health condition to deteriorate before taking action. The Deputy Speaker then directed Minister Aceng to also follow up on MP Ssewanyana’s health.
