Hoima: Two herdsmen arrested over murder

Hoima, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Hoima police are holding two herdsmen accused of murder. The suspects whose particulars have been concealed for fear of jeopardizing police investigations allegedly together with others still at large connived and killed Pithuwa, a fisherman attached to Kabarangwa landing site, in Kibiro parish, Kiganja Sub County in Hoima district.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Saturday at the Kibiro landing site in Kibiro parish, Kiganja sub-county. It is alleged that the herdsmen waylaid their victim and severally hacked him on the head and neck killing him on the spot.

Godfrey Abigaba, the area LC I Chairperson told Uganda Radio Network-URN in an interview that residents heard the deceased screaming for help and rushed to see what was happening to him, only to find his lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.

He says the residents could not do much to save the victim because he had breathed his last by the time they arrived at the crime scene. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson told URN that the police and the Uganda People’s Defense Forces soldiers pursued and arrested two of the suspects on Sunday.

He says that the suspects are locked up at Hoima central police station as investigations into the matter are ongoing. Police have since charged the suspects with murder. According to Hakiza, the hunt for the other suspects who participated in the brutal murder is ongoing.
