Hundreds seek accreditation ahead of FDC Delegates Conference

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | More than two hundred delegates from the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party have convened at the party headquarters at Najjanankumbi Kampala for accreditation to attend the official delegates’ conference scheduled for today.

The FDC has set up different tables where delegates from specific regions are being accredited. The party Chairman for the Electoral Commission Boniface Bamwenda Toterebuka on Monday said a total of 1,271 delegates shall be accredited to take part in the delegates conference where a new party National Executive Committee-NEC shall be elected.

The categories of voters invited are; District Chairpersons, General secretaries, Secretaries for Publicity and Mobilization, Women league Chairpersons, and Youth Secretaries while at the constituency level Chairpersons and General Secretaries of whom one must be a female were invited.

Over 100 members were nominated to contest different positions in NEC. Daka Ajuna is one of the candidates in the race. Daka, a former FDC flag bearer for Member of Parliament for Fortportal Municipality is contesting for the position of Secretary for Organisation and Mobilisation.

Ajuna said that he wants the position to be able to enhance mobilization and recruitment for FDC. His plan is for FDC to leverage technology to reach more supporters and register members. He also wants to ensure that the FDC has offices from the grassroots to enable them to effectively communicate from the center to the lower cadres as well as mobilize from the grassroots.

Ajuna also wants to use his position to have the party key documents and messages translated into local languages. He said that the FDC constitution, its manifesto, and other documents should be made available in local languages and in other formats that appeal to people with different abilities, for instance, those with visual challenges.

He believes that this way, the party FDC shall propagate its message further and attract more members.

Moses Okwera, former Councillor from Nakawa division in Kampala. Okwera who is contesting for the position of Secretary for Health said that his focus shall be put on the promotion of primary health care. He wants the FDC to partner with different health organizations and hold health camps where people can be sensitized about health issues and also offer health services.

Walid Lubega who is the National Chairman of the Youth League at the Najjanankumbi-based FDC is now contesting for the position of Deputy Secretary General in charge of Administration. He said if elected into office, he shall work to strengthen communication between the headquarters and lower structures to ensure proper coordination of the party activities and teamwork.

The FDC Delegates Conference will be held at the Patidar Samaj Sports Ground in Lugogo Kampala. However, another group of FDC based at Katonga is opposed to the conference and issued a contrary election roadmap which shall climax with a delegates conference in March 2024.
