Ibanda, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Ibanda Resident District Commissioner Caleb Tukikiriza has lifted the temporary ban on overnight activities.
The ban had been imposed as a result of a security threat in the area, particularly following the recent attack on the neighboring Kamwenge district by suspected Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels. Ten lives were lost during the attack.
In the aftermath, the RDC stopped all overnight activities including nightclubs, musical shows, karaoke, overnight, and crusade prayers stating that the measure was taken to guarantee people’s safety during the festive season.
Tukaikiriza, who is also the Chairperson of the District Security Committee explains that they have now put in place guidelines that would be followed by the organizers of night activities. He explains that henceforth organisers of overnight events will be required to submit a written request for the deployment of security personnel.
James Ahimbisibwe, the Director of Real Entertainment welcomed the development saying that the ban was a harsh measure that was likely to affect their livelihood.
