Jinja, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The ambassador of Israel to Kenya, who also oversees diplomatic relations in the four countries of Uganda, Malawi, Tanzania and Seychelles, Michael Lotem has expressed gratitude for efforts by Ugandans in the continued fight against terrorism.
While addressing journalists after paying a courtesy visit to Jinja city council on Tuesday, Lotem observed that the Ugandan leadership has acted fervently towards devising means of fighting against terrorism tendencies.
Lotem says that terrorism is a fast spreading evil across the world, requiring committed efforts in combating it before eating up the grassroots fibres of society.
He however, expressed dismay at how a number of countries have backtracked on the terrorism fight, following decades of limited interference by terrorist activities.
Lotem insists that, this form of survival by luck is not sustainable in brokering long lasting peace and triumph against terrorism.
Lotem acknowledged the positive support of the Ugandan people towards the terrorism fight.
He also held an engagement with departmental heads at the Jinja city council hall where they brainstormed on probable collaborative efforts in agriculture, health and education.
The Jinja city mayor, Peter Kasolo says that, Israel has advanced in the area of modern water technologies and since several industries are fast sprouting up in this area, twinning up with experts in this industry is key to driving reasonable development.
Kasolo also noted the opportunities in the tourism sector, where they hope to develop viable proposals for interested Uganda-Israel investment partnerships.
Zachariah Sserwadda, the leader of the Jinja joint Christian community said that it is an obligation of the church to pray for peace in the different parts of the world even when the consequences of such unrests do not directly impact on them, arguing that only God has the power to creating sustainable peace in the world without apportioning blame.
