Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Participants in the just concluded Jopadhola Community Conference have agreed on a 10-point programme that “shall work wonders in positioning the Jopadhola for the 21st Century and Beyond.”

Key among the resolutions adopted at the end of the gathering organised by the Jopadhola Community Association (TJC), was to start a dedicated Jopadhola FM radio station, formation of a think tank and information bank, plus an education and scholarship fund.

It was also agreed that together with Tieng Adhola Cultural Institution (TACI) negotiate for local content benefits for locals, and to negotiate for cheaper prices of fertilizers to boost agriculture.

The 10 resolutions were agreed at the end of the inaugural Jopadhola Community Conference #TJCC18 at Makerere University on Saturday that attracted participants from the diaspora, across the country and neigbouring Kenya.

“We agree that a fully-fledged Dho/Jopadhola FM radio station be established to reduce on the costs incurred by Tieng Adhola Cultural Institution and other development partners in communicating with people in Padhola and in so doing increasing the dissemination of relevant information and news for prosperity,” said TJC founder member Lazarrus Oketch who he read out the resolutions to a packed audience. Oketch announced that in the field of industrialization, Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR), growth and development, the Saturday meeting agreed that 30% of the professional and non-professional job allocations respectively that must be local content as was passed by the Tororo District Council be operationalized and implemented.

He added that Saturday’s meeting suggested that a minimum demand is placed to all the new and existing factories to ensure acts of CSR to the communities are implemented annually.

TJC will in the next 24 months also plant at least 200,000 trees in all the sub-counties of Padhola and go ahead to negotiate a long term contract with Guangzhou DongSong Energy Group Co. Ltd for provision of fertilizers at a fixed price to the locals. This as one of the advantages of location and ownership of the resources that support the fertilizer industry.

In health, TJC plans to work to promote and market certified traditional health practices and medicines as a cheaper alternatives to modern medicines. They intend to push for schools in Padhola to continue to teach Dhopadhola in the lower classes of primary education and more schools be encouraged to teach Dhopadhola as a subject at Uganda Certificate and Advanced Certificates of Education.
