Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Julius Businge| E-commerce platform, Jumia has officially announced the launch of a Food Festival Campaign which is running up to the end of this month (Oct.31).
Conducted via the Jumia Food app, the campaign is being done in partnership with local restaurants, supermarkets and fresh produce markets. The other partners are international chains such as KFC, Carrefour and Pernod Ricard.
Ron Kawamara, the chief executive officer for Jumia Uganda and Timothy Mugume, the Jumia Food country manager for Uganda launched the festival at Tamarai Restaurant in Kampala on Oct.15.
The two executives said, the objective of the campaign is to promote the adoption of meal and food ordering among consumers, which has become increasingly popular in the last few years and has accelerated in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic era.
The event is also meant to support local businesses within the food supply chain, as they have strongly suffered from the COVID-19 restriction measures, resulting in less capacity, fewer opening hours, and sometimes even closure, executives said.
On its platform during the Festival, Jumia will play host to a wide variety of food vendors and brands ranging from fresh organic groceries to fast-food, alcohol, ready-to-eat consumables and local cuisines.
Consumers will be able to enjoy deals like 50% off on the entire Food Hub menu, a 40% off on Jameson whiskey plus many more deals.
Jumia partners are equally optimistic the food festival will cement their relationship with their customers during the period and after.
Christian Lenana, the route to market manager for Jameson Whiskey in Uganda said, the sale of the beverage will be available to buyers during the period but will be well managed to prevent its misuse. In Uganda, Jameson is managed by Vicland Distributors Limited.
Sharon Kwiyocwiny, the marketing and sales manager for Yo Kuku, dealers in fresh and frozen chicken, said the partnership gives them an opportunity to deliver their goods to customers through contactless means, which is in line with standard operating procedures for stopping the spread of COVID-19.
A total of 40 restaurants are actively taking part in the festival out of the 300 that are listed on the Jumia e-platform.
