The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango

Kampala, Uganda  | THE INDEPENDENT | Ten People Power supporters are locked up at Kabalagala police station on charges of staging unlawful procession along Nsambya road in Kampala on Monday evening.

The suspects were allegedly found shooting a music video related to the new song of musician turned politician, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi- wine.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, says the group was arrested when they started blocking Nsambya road and inconvenience other road users.

“We were informed and our officers went there but the majority runaway we managed to arrest 10 of the group” Onyango has said. The Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi posted about the arrest of the group on his social Media platforms on Tuesday afternoon.

“Yesterday, 10 of our friends with whom, we have been working on a music project were rounded up by police including the video directors and camera men. They were taken to Kabalagala Police Station and charged with holding an unlawful assembly! This regime is so scared of the people that it’s even scared of its own shadow.  While this should make us sad, we’re encouraged that such signs always spell the end of every brutal dictatorship. Stay strong comrades, freedom is in sight,” he said.

The arrest of the group came just a few hours after police blocked Kyagulanyi from holding a consultative meeting on his presidential ambitions that was scheduled to take place at Pope Paul Memorial hotel in Kampala.

Police clashed with People Power supporters who were incensed by the decision to stop their meeting in different parts of Kampala town.  Onyango has cautioned the public against shooting videos in public places, saying it is illegal, adding that whoever is found can be charged.

He advises whoever wants to shoot a video to seek permission from the nearest police station.
