Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has condemned the raid on the house by members of the Red Top Brigade Movement, saying they will be dealt with very severely. It comes shortly after two men donning red tops jumped from the stranger’s gallery to the floor of parliament around 4:00 pm.
The two men identified as Dafala Ssenjako and Charles Mutaasa Kafero stirred chaos in the house when they started attacking MPs indiscriminately and punched them. The strangers entered parliament with a letter titled “A letter to Africa and Uganda, stop cropping out citizens,” in which they protest against President, Yoweri Museveni’s regime and corruption.
Kafero calls himself the Red top commander and President of Uganda come 2021. The incident has drawn an angry reaction from the speaker, saying an attack on Parliament in the course of its work will result into severe consequences.
Kadaga says it is an offense for any person to create disturbance, which interrupts parliamentary proceedings. She called on whoever wants to demonstrate against Parliament to use other means other than try to invade on the space of MPs.
The two men were arrested and taken for questioning. Parliament briefly blocked anyone from exiting and entering its premises until about 5:00 pm.
