Moroto, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A suspected Karamojong warrior has shot dead a police officer in Rupa Sub County Moroto district.
The incident happened on Friday at around 8: 15 pm when the deceased identified as Baziro Songok a police officer attached to Nakiloro ASTU detach together with other two civilians, Tamuhid Chemonges aged 18 years old, and Wadudu Mwanga aged 15 years all residents of Nakiloro ASTU detach were heading back to the barracks from Nakiloro trading center.
It is alleged that a suspect only identified as Apule, a resident of Nakiloro village was returning home when he met with the three.
Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson said that Apule who was armed with a rifle later pointed a gun at Songok. Longole added that the warrior ordered the three to move toward the bush before shooting the officer.
He added that the two boys restrained the warrior and managed to disarm him.
“A joint force of ASTU and UPDF led by Officer in charge Nakiloro searched for Pc Songok and found that he was shot in the chest by the warrior and he was rushed to UPDF health facility at 3rd Div. Headquarters for medical attention where he was pronounced dead” Longole explained.
Longole revealed that the warrior was on Saturday discovered dead in the bush during an operation by the joint security forces. He suspected that the warrior could have succumbed to injuries he sustained during the scuffle.
