Kikuube, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The police in Kikuube are pursuing three suspected armed robbers who raided a local bar and stole 40,000 shillings at gunpoint. The incident occurred on Saturday night in Kasambya village, Butoole Parish, Kyangwali Sub-county of Kikuube District.
Information gathered by Uganda Radio Network (URN) indicates that the three robbers, dressed in military attire similar to that of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), raided a local bar belonging to Kurunalio Nkwasiibwe in Kasambya village.
They placed all the patrons at gunpoint and ordered Nkwasiibwe to hand over all the money he had. The robbers also took eight bottles of soda from the bar. According to Nkwasiibwe, the robbers initially disguised themselves as customers but soon after, they held him and his patrons at gunpoint, demanding money. Fearing for his life, Nkwasiibwe handed over the 40,000 shillings he had.
The robbers threatened to kill everyone in the bar if they raised an alarm. After the robbery, they fled to an unknown destination. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident.
He stated that a team of flying squad detectives has been dispatched to the area to hunt for the robbers. He appealed to residents to remain calm, assuring them that the police have taken full control of the security situation and that the robbers will be charged with aggravated robbery once apprehended.
